Quick Notes

I am working on a longer entry and it turns out to be a bit overwhelming. So while I compose what is turning into my own Iliad, I have a few bits to toss your way.

HDFEST COMING TO TOWN: Don't forget about HDFEST 2005! This is the South Florida leg of its world tour and I get to be a judge. Support the film community. Check it out!

EVERYTHING HAS ITS OPPOSITE DEPT.: I think one of the best resources for information is the Wikipedia, an on-line encyclopedia maintained by everyone (including a teeny but by me; it is cool to be part of such a good, communal thing). Yes, there are vandals, outright lies and material that is very biased about religion. politics, etc. Somehow it is being maintained. On the other side it the Wikipedia's evil twin, the Uncyclopedia. It is a parody of the Wikipedia (though it claims that the other way around is true), and it ranges from mildly unfunny to belly laughter. As a gentle warning much of it is PG-13, a little R here and there and an occasional NC-17 article. Again, you can join in on the fun as well. Any tome that features Hello Kitty on the can and Darth Vader on a Segway can't be all that bad.

iTUNES PHONE: Is it just me or is anyone else not that jazzed by this new iTunes cellphone? I am an rabid iPod owner and cellphone addict, but this new device don't cut it for me. First problem: battery life. I have run down my iPod before which I can live with, but if it takes the phone with it and I am waiting for an important call, that is no good. Also it works like a regualr iPod in terms of synching to your computer. It is a mobile communications device. Shouldn't it be able to download the latest Hilary Duff tune on its own?

SERENITY: September 30th all the Browncoats, sci-fi and good movie fans will get a chance to see the new movie Serenity based on the short-lived, fan favorite TV show Firefly. Joss Whedon has over the past few months been four-walling the movie in venues across America to build up the word of mouth. I hope this movie does awesome because it will help to show that the studios, wondering why people are not going to see their "blockbusters" and ticket sales are down, that good movies will sell.

Talk at ya later!
